November 15, 2013 in Aerowood Animal Hospital

The number of pet-owning singles is on the rise and is closing the gap with pet-owning families, as shown in the American Veterinary Medical Association’s 2012 U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook.

Here are some interesting facts from the book:

  • 55% of single adults in the U.S. are pet owners. The number is 66% for families.
  • From 2006-2011, the number of single adults with pets increased over 16%. During the same time period, the increase rate was less than 1.5% for families.
  • Single men living alone who own pets grew from 34% to 44%. Likewise, there was an increase from 47% to 57% for single woman living alone with a pet.

More and more singles are enjoying the benefits pets can bring to our lives. [end]
