National Dress Up Your Pet Day – January 14th

January 2, 2016 in Aerowood Animal Hospital

Celebrate National Dress Up Your Pet Day on January 14th. The day was founded by Celebrity Pet Lifestyle Expert and Animal Behaviorist, Colleen Paige, in 2009. The day is celebrated worldwide as a way to promote the need for pet adoption and to support pet businesses and artisans such as pet clothes knitters and pet photographers.

Here are some great reasons why you and your pet should participate in National Dress Up Your Pet Day.

  1. Clothes can show off your pet’s personality. Is he or she smart, tough, sassy? Let your pet dress the part.
  2. It’s January which means many places are experiencing cold, snowy, or rainy days. Dressing your pet in warm clothing will be protecting them from the weather.
  3. Dressing up your pet will make them the center of attention…and what pet doesn’t love that?
  4. Add a little variety to your pet’s routine. This day will stand out to your pet.
  5. Use National Dress Up Your Pet Day as a bonding experience. Your pet relishes the time spent together.
  6. Dressing up your pet(s) is a great time for a photo op.

Here are a few tips and reminders for picking out your pet’s outfits and costumes.

  1. Keep your pet’s comfort in mind.
  2. Anytime you dress up your pet, make sure the outfit is appropriate for the season and weather.
  3. You also want to be sure all clothing is safe for your pet to wear. This includes checking for any parts that your pet may try to chew or swallow as this could lead to illness or injury. Don’t put your pet in anything that might overheat them and make sure that your pet can see and hear properly once they are placed in the costume.
