Do you find yourself getting distracted by those adorable cat videos online? Good news! A recent study finds that watching these videos not only entertains, but also boosts viewers’ mood and energy, and decreases stress and negative feelings.

Study author, Jessica Gall Myrick surveyed nearly 7000 people concerning their personality traits, mood, and online cat-related video viewing habits. Watching the cat videos made the participants feel more energetic. They also reported fewer negative emotions such as stress, anxiety, and sadness. Interestingly, the participants say the positive impact on their mood and energy outweighed any guilt they felt about procrastinating from work or other tasks to view the videos. The most popular sites for viewing cute cat videos are YouTube, Facebook, and Buzzfeed.

To add to the good news, Myrick donated 10 cents for every completed survey to Lil Bub’s Big Fund for the ASPCA. That is nearly $700 raised for this foundation which helps homeless pets with special needs nationwide.
