Dog Training Tip- Pay Close Attention to Body Language

Dog Training Tip: When learning to follow your commands, dogs pay very close attention to your body language. For instance, if you always bend down when you tell your dog to sit, your dog is likely to ignore your sit command when you are standing up. The goal is to work toward being able to give all your commands in a relaxed, upright posture – without the addition of hand signals or body signals.

As an example of the power of body language, experienced dog handlers even pay attention to the foot with which they start walking. When the dog is on a handler’s left, the handler will step away with the right foot if they want the dog to stay. When they want the dog to follow, they will step away with the left foot.
