Cats with Notched or Tipped Ears

February 16, 2015 in Aerowood Animal Hospital

You may have seen a few cats running around in your neighborhood with “notched” or “tipped” ears. This surgical procedure is a sign used to show that a feral cat has been spayed or neutered. This is part of a program called TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return). These cats are important to our communities by providing cat population control. Research has also shown that they prevent other cats from moving into the area. For this reason, ear-tipped or notched cats should not be re-trapped and brought to a shelter, unless sick.
