Can E-Collars Help Pets With Motion Sickness?

January 23, 2014 in Aerowood Animal Hospital

One Connecticut veterinarian says yes. Dr. Tom Morganti has a cat patient whose owners say he throws up every time he rode in a vehicle. One day, the cat had a minor surgery that required him to wear an Elizabethan or E-collar. His owners reported that this was the first time their feline made the trip home in a car without getting sick. When the cat was brought back to the vet’s office for his checkup, he was still wearing the collar and also made this ride without throwing up.

Since this success story, Dr. Morganti has suggested using E-collars for motion sickness to other clients: over a dozen cats and even a few dogs. So far it has worked for each case. E-collars may help with motion sickness by reducing peripheral vision and helping your pet focus more. If you give it a try, let us know how it turns out.
